Co-operative retails across Western Canada have been implementing the Cardlock Credit Check process. This upgrade will be coming to Gateway Co-op in June 2026. Are you prepared for the change?

Real-Time Credit Checks at Co-op Cardlocks
Co-op is committed to continuously improving the systems and services that support you. As such, Co-op has introduced an upgrade to the Co-op Cardlock system that will implement real-time credit authorization at the time of fuelling.

  1. What is changing at Co-op cardlocks?
Currently, cardlock purchases do not check your credit limit available in real time. While already implemented at some retails, Gateway Co-op member transactions will be checked instantly against your available credit limit starting in June 2026. If your credit limit is exceeded, the system will stop the transaction.
  2. Why is Co-op making this change?
This update reduces the credit risk to the Co-operative. Since cardlocks operate 24/7 without staff on-site, real-time checks ensure purchases don’t exceed approved credit limits. In addition, this update helps protect your account from unauthorized or fraudulent activity and ensures secure and accurate account management
  3. What do I need to do as a customer?
To avoid any disruptions at a Co-op cardlock location, you must ensure your credit limit is up to date with the Co-op that issued your cardlock card. Ask yourself, does my credit limit on my charge account match what I am actually using? This credit limit needs to cover all of your charge transactions including bulk petroleum deliveries, Home Centre charges, fuel tanks purchased on delayed billing programs, and your cardlock transactions. We generally recommend that you request a credit limit that is double your highest charge month. If you need to request a credit limit increase, please complete the attached form and submit to gateway.ram@sasktel.net
  4. How will I know if my transaction is declined?
If you have exceeded your credit limit the cardlock terminal will show “Account Over Limit”.
Restricted accounts will show “Credit Restricted” on the cardlock terminal.
  5. Will this affect my ability to fuel up?
If you do not ensure your credit limit reflects what you actually charge over a two-month period, it will affect your ability to fuel up at the cardlock. Requesting an increased credit limit with your Co-op will help ensure seamless service. If you plan on a larger project that will impact the amount you are charging for a short period of time, you will need to request a temporary increase in your credit limit to ensure that you continue to have access to your credit at the Cardlock.
  6. Who can I contact with questions?
Please contact our Credit Supervisor for further assistance at 306-563-5637 ext. 235 or email gateway.ram@sasktel.net.
